Nvidia is targeting up to 2 gigawatts of new AI data-centre capacity in Australia by 2027, working with local operators Firmus, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk.
That figure needs its context: Australiaβs entire existing data-centre capacity sits at around 1.6 gigawatts. The plan is therefore not an expansion but a multiplication of a countryβs digital infrastructure footprint within a few years.
The same trend is unfolding across Southeast Asia, and its consequences reach beyond technology: power supply, cooling water and land are becoming the deciding factors in where compute capacity is built β including how close those services end up to users in this region.
